Spiced Vanilla Pear Syrup
This syrup can be used over vanilla ice cream, over whipped cream and fruits making for a simple and elegant dessert, in cocktails, pour over pancakes and waffles or even in your tea for a bit of fruity sweetness.
You will need:
- 1 cup finely chopped pears
- ½ cup organic sugar
- ½ cup water
- 2-3 drops almond extract
- ½ vanilla bean
Recipe
- Begin by finely chopping or blending your pears. Then add the pears, sugar, water, almond extract, and vanilla to a small saucepan and place over medium heat.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook about 5-8 minutes until the liquid becomes an amber color and the pears are breaking down. Stir frequently while the pears are cooking to evenly cook.
- Remove the pear puree from the heat and strain the syrup into a container. Use a spoon to press any remaining liquid out of the pear solids.
Pear Solids can be thrown out or saved to be used as a topping for ice cream, yogurt bowls, or just to eat as a sweet dessert.
Keep the syrup in the fridge.
